Keith Neal finds expression in poetry. Writing poems has always been his source of expression. “The Poet” is a story of a young man in the 1960’s and 1970’s as lost as the souls surrounding him. There is nothing more poetic than dealing one’s life with sex, drugs, and rock and roll but could words alone suffice when they can never be enough? Could they fill in the emptiness of the soul?
M. Logan Hamm’s “The Poet” is indeed the poetry of one life told through a novel. A truly gripping and inspiring story, this new book captures heart-wrenching moments of a young dreamer’s life expressed genuinely in words. However, reality is the worst nightmare of every dreamer. Finding expression and solace in poetry does not always lead to understanding life itself. What is more painful than admitting that you are your own demon? Hamm creates a wonderful poet the audience will love and remember. A wounded poet may sound predictable for a novel but the story does not begin and end there. A very capable writer that he is, Hamm is not going to let you down on this book that actually takes you by surprise. This is a compelling drama with a solid premise worthy of recognition. In addition, a dramatic turn of events makes the whole novel remarkable – regardless of whether you love or hate poetry. “The Poet” may not be unique but it is absolutely intriguing enough to make you want to read it in one sitting.
