The Pixie Tales: The Gift, Volume 1 is a young adult fantasy by Kenneth Leon Roberts. When pixies turn fourteen, they go to Queen Starlite who approves their careers. Starla is sent to the Sanctuary to join the holy order and Poshea joins the royal factory of magic. Poshea is impatient to become a magician and seethes that bottle washing duties will not help him become a famous magician. Starla begins to learn the old ways of the order, but wonders why helping humans and other pixies is important to the Sanctuary. How does this benefit her if she is to learn the ancient ways of life? When the realm comes under threat from unknown enemies, the two are assigned special duties by the queen. Unfortunately, tragedy occurs and the two begin to reflect on what is really important to them, making decisions that will affect everyone in their realm.
The Pixie Tales is so inspiring and I am touched by the meaningful lessons subtly inserted into this charming fantasy. Although it is targeted at young adults, older readers will certainly find the content as uplifting, especially if they are faced with personal challenges. Kenneth Leon Roberts writes with a creative knack for storytelling. I was reminded of the Bible story, Job, based on specific parts. The author expounded very nicely with clear, interesting details on the sequences of events filled with happiness, sadness, and contemplative moments. The Pixie Tales: The Gift, Volume 1 is nicely written and recommended.
