The ocean is a beautiful place. There is a lot of sea life to observe, like whales, turtles, seagulls, dolphins, and so much more. And there are incredible shells that are washed ashore on the sandy or stony beaches. The tides move in and out with the moon and the sun shining down. People love to swim in the ocean, or surf, or play on the sandy beaches. There is so much to do and enjoy and appreciate at the ocean.
Cara Whyte’s picture book story, The Ocean, Sea and Me, is a sweet story about the ocean that will appeal to the very young reader. The language is simple to help young readers improve their reading skills and perhaps read along. The words are lyrical and may also inspire the young reader to sing the words – some of the phrases even rhyme. There are beautiful illustrations that will inspire young readers to see the beauty of the oceans and all that lives in and near them, and it might also inspire young readers to talk about experiences they’ve had at the ocean or dream of having. Perhaps the young reader will also want to draw or paint their own pictures about the ocean. "We love it! We love the ocean. We love it! We love the sea. Especially when you’re out there… next to me." (The last line adds a compassionate ending to a charming book.) This book is clearly a work of art in itself to be cherished and enjoyed as it expounds on the beauty of the most important part of our planet: the ocean.
