The Pursuit of Marla Adams by Patrick Hanford follows the story of DEA Special Agent Marla Adams, who is trying to heal from the recent murder of her husband and is being pursued by a vengeful copycat killer. An evil doctor is preying on drug addicts and homeless people by overdosing them with fentanyl. They are perfect subjects for her stem cell research since they won't be easily missed. Dr. Wilborn leaves behind a trail of bodies with holes drilled into various parts of their bodies. Marla is assigned to this investigation, due to the similarity with a previous case she encountered. It's part of a bigger plan to ultimately exact revenge on Marla that the doctor ventures into the tangled maze of the San Antonio drainage system to perform her unorthodox experiments on ignorant victims. The cat and mouse game is a race against time and blistering temperatures to bring a ruthless perpetrator to justice.
Patrick Hanford's The Pursuit of Marla Adams is a superb, action-packed medical thriller that readers will not want to put down. Through his masterful writing, the author has created a well-thought-out plot offering chilling twists and turns leading to an explosive ending. Marla’s strong character throughout the novel shows a sensitive side as she grieves for her husband. Her exterior is brave, dedicated, and determined and so the reader can empathize and relate to her. I was captivated by the cast of intricate characters. The villain's egocentrism is evident throughout the novel, even though through her intelligence, she had the option to do the right thing. This fast-paced tense storyline is filled with action, medical ethics, revenge, and retribution. The book is highly recommended since it creates a sense of urgency and curiosity and will appeal to readers who enjoy medical thrillers or murder mysteries with clever plots.
