Sapana Grossi’s enchanting, unforgettable fairy tale, The NeverEnd Friend, celebrates courage and friendship through the adventures of its young hero. As Achille stands in his armor ready for battle, he realizes he cannot find his best friend, Benji. The two friends have traveled and fought as a team. They have faced storms, slept on the moon, and tamed ferocious dragons together. Without his best friend, Achille refuses to go to sleep. As he lies on his bed, he falls into thick sludge and begins an exciting journey. Achille is determined to find Benji and soon learns that his best friend is on top of Mount NeverEnd, a scary mountain inhabited by a fierce ogre. The difficult journey tests Achille’s resolve to find Benji and teaches him powerful lessons about friendship.
This is an exciting story with unpredictable twists at every turn that is made even more immersive by its fantastic artwork. The story is not only engrossing but also includes many educative facts that young readers will love to learn. Children will be inspired by Achille’s growth and learn useful lessons about how long-distance friendships can thrive. Achille brilliantly demonstrates the value of bravery when facing frightening events and the need for selflessness in friendships. His journey is filled with many settings that I found mesmerizing. I appreciated that explanations about the meanings behind the main characters’ names and their roles were included. They helped me better understand the story. In The NeverEnd Friend, Sapana Grossi adeptly demonstrates the power of love and friendship through the engaging adventures of its unique, courageous characters.
