The Neander Conspiracy by Scot Baddesta is an exciting sci-fi novel. Professor Tyson Moore is bored with his predictable life at Stanford University and needs a short breather. When a video showing his unconventional comments goes viral on campus, Suntech’s offer becomes more and more promising. Tyson suspects there is more to Suntech’s operation in the Nubian desert when a few details don’t add up, not to mention the ironclad NDA he has to sign before putting boots on the ground. But he couldn’t have imagined what the secret lab has really been working on. Base Helios is cloning Neanderthals. The scientific implications are mind-boggling but that’s the least of his worries. A day before his arrival one of the security personnel turned rogue, killing almost everyone on the base. It’s up to Tyson and the handful of survivors to prevent a catastrophe and remain alive long enough for help to come.
Scot Baddesta wrote a wildly exhilarating story. It’s current. It’s almost too real. And it is absolutely fantastic. I went in looking for something and got so much more than entertainment from The Neander Conspiracy. I just loved this new look at cloning. Everything in this book is well researched scientific fact. It gives the story an edge and gets the reader thinking, is this fact or fiction? Which is what any good science fiction should do. After reading this book I can’t help imagining ‘a group’ out there working on taboo experiments. I related to the bad guys who had a good argument for their actions. I don’t believe in evolution but this book is interesting for anyone looking for realism in their fiction.
