In The Myth of Drowsy Hollow by Jeanne Kay Juhos, Lola writes to tell about her time at Birdie Camp as she orchestrates plays with the help of all of her dearest friends. The newest performance they begin working on is The Myth Of Drowsy Hollow which is Lola’s fun variation of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow. Lola’s friend joins in on the decisions about who will play what part and how the story will progress with Fritzi playing Ichabod Crane. As the play moves forward, Ichabod and his friends begin telling ghost stories of a headless horseman. Ichabod does not believe in ghosts but listens anyway, disappearing that night after everyone goes home. What will become of Ichabod? Did the headless horseman kidnap him or was there something more understandable yet lonely at play behind the scenes? Will Lola and her friends figure out The Mystery Of Drowsy Hollow?
The Myth of Drowsy Hollow is an adorable children’s story with a plot that will easily capture the attention of young readers. The characters are unique animals that are intelligent and easy for kids to enjoy getting to know. I loved The Myth Of Drowsy Hollow and the play that the characters create as they get caught up in their production details and plan out the rehearsals for the performance. My favorite thing about The Myth Of Drowsy Hollow are the illustrations that are pictures of real-life rescued animals and how they fit in so well with this wonderful tale. I recommend Juhos’s story of The Myth Of Drowsy Hollow to anyone who has children that enjoy a witty and adventurous tale.
