The Man Who Stopped Time by Joseph M. Orrigo recounts the impactful life of Dr. Elisha Cullen Dick, a physician and intellectual leader of his time. Dr. Dick served in many influential positions throughout his lifetime. His intelligence, leadership, and knowledge led him to become a friend and physician to George Washington. He also played an important role in containing the yellow fever outbreak in Alexandria, was part of the team that negotiated terms with the British on behalf of Alexandria during the war of 1812, was present during the final moments of George Washington, and was a civic leader who showed his civic support beyond his capacity as a physician by offering his services during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791.
Despite his far-reaching service during his lifetime, Dr. Elisha Cullen Dick remains fairly unknown. The Man Who Stopped Time by Joseph M. Orrigo brings attention to the important role Dr. Dick played in his capacity as a physician and civic leader.
