The Lazy Dog and the Quick Fox: An Action Maze Adventure In Holochromatic Color by Rebecca Rose Orton introduces a well-known children’s pangram, “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog,” and takes the reader on an action maze adventure. You may ask what is a pangram? It is a word or sentence that utilizes every letter of the alphabet at least once. As the child reads the story, they can then determine the outcome of their own story, given a few choices. Here's an example: The quick, sly fox jumped over the lazy, brown dog. The fox turned around and asked the dog, 'Why did you trip me?' The dog replied, 'It was rude of you to jump over me, don't you think?' How did the fox respond? The child is given four choice responses: 1) Diplomatically 2) Egotistically 3) Heatedly or 4) Humbly. Once the child makes a choice, each answer is tied to a chapter. This process helps the child to enhance their intellectual abilities.
Reading The Lazy Dog and the Quick Fox: An Action Maze Adventure In Holochromatic Color by Rebecca Rose Orton is a great choice for children because it helps to strengthen their cognitive skills. When the mind is challenged, it causes the brain to process and problem solve more effectively. I personally always love these types of books because it focuses on the educational aspects of a child’s early development. Once these processes are introduced to a child, they will continue to use these same types of thinking patterns in adulthood. Great job, Rebecca.
