The Lady of the Loch is a paranormal mystery novella for preteens by Ryan Vernel. Twelve-year-old Tyler Buckland is not excited at the prospect of his family's upcoming move from Oxford to the remote town of Lochview in Scotland. However, when he learns about the legend behind the dreaded Lady of the Loch, he is determined to solve the mystery. Upon his arrival in the seemingly innocuous town, Tyler finds himself further intrigued by the haunted Lochview Manor. With a boy named Jackson Weir, he sets out to discover the secrets of the manor. But when Jackson goes missing, Tyler finds himself in an increasingly precarious situation.
Soaked in mystery, suspense, and intrigue, The Lady of the Loch is a gripping supernatural adventure for young readers. Author Ryan Vernel keeps his cards close to his chest as the twists and turns of the plot keep the reader hooked from beginning to end. The narrative is crisp and concise, and the evenly-paced tale makes it a breeze to read. Tyler is a curious boy who makes the best out of his circumstances, even when he finds himself thrust into a situation he could never foresee. His sense of adventure and courageous heart make him immensely likable, and readers will find him easy to root for. Overall, a thoroughly entertaining start to the Lochview Mystery series.
