Jim Pugmire continues to enthrall me with The King of Dalatia, which is the third medieval novel in the Quinn Hawk Series. I recommend reading the previous books first to fully appreciate this one. Quinn is no longer an insecure illiterate teen, and is now studying at the prestigious King’s Academy. A zealot known as The Voice of the People is inciting civilians to start a rebellion against Dalatia to end the monarchy and social class structure. King Anthony appoints Quinn to uncover the identity of its treasonous leader. This proves more difficult for Quinn, as the villains are one step ahead of him and he becomes the hunted. His investigation leads him into Maldria, a country embroiled in their own power struggle issues. He quickly realizes that old and new enemies, as well as friends, are united in a battle which will bring both negative and positive changes for all concerned.
The previous novels in the Quinn Hawk Series were excellent, and The King of Dalatia was outstanding. The author’s writing expertise excelled in each book. He continued to mold some of the main characters, outlining their strengths and weaknesses to complement the plot, while introducing new characters. I have watched Quinn mature and understood his complex moods as he adjusted to certain situations he encountered. Some parts in this book left me tearful, while others made me want to learn archery. The story had a perfect ending. This riveting action adventure sealed my admiration for Jim Pugmire.
