Lee Ann Rubsam’s The Intercessor’s Manual offers a clear, comprehensive guide to praying on behalf of others. Written from a Pentecostal perspective, which emphasizes the value of praying in tongues, the concepts and techniques are all grounded in Scripture and easily adaptable to whatever a Christian considers their primary “prayer language.” The opening chapters dive straight into some questions that help readers discern if a dedicated intercessory prayer life is part of their path. From there, the reader is taken on an inspiring journey into the biblical foundations for intercession; the power of using one’s Spirit-given “prayer language”; the value of narrowing one’s prayer focus; and the importance of praying Scripture to align with God’s character and will. The book also includes helpful appendices, including one on “Hearing God’s Voice,” with practical ways this can happen in daily life.
Author Lee Ann Rubsam employs a very conversational, engaging, unpretentious writing style that injects some fun and wry humor along with welcome doses of practical, “down-to-earth” observations and advice along the way. I loved her apt warning that intercessory prayer approached poorly can result in “goofiness.” For such a weighty, spiritual topic, her style makes the book not only very informative but intriguing and relatable as well. If you are looking for a manual from an experienced intercessory prayer warrior that will give you the true low-down on the “whys, whats, and how-tos," then this book is for you. Highly recommended for any Christian believer interested in seriously exploring the godly, valuable task of intercession.
