I am so glad that I read The Importance of Christian Friendships: In Good Times and in Bad by Beth Gable Hicks. It made me examine my friendships and see why some people act the way they do and how true Christian friends will behave and treat you in situations. It also made me examine my own behavior as a Christian and as a friend, and I realize I have some work to do on myself as well. Hicks experienced the poor health and eventual death of her husband, but he knew she'd be okay after he was gone because of her close Christian friendships. It gave them both comfort. Her message to us is that while we can't keep life from changing, if we have faith in Christ we will have Christian friendships that are different from ordinary friendships.
Christian Friendships: In Good Times and in Bad by Beth Gable Hicks is a must-read for Christians. Too often we accept Christ but reject fellowship and He calls for us to love (and be with) one another. This book opened my eyes to why we need to maintain those relationships with other Christians and support and comfort them when they need it, as they will do for us in turn. Hicks' personal stories interwoven with scripture and a comparison between Christian friendship and non-Christian friendship makes for a warm, inviting, comfortable read, as if you're sitting and talking with a good Christian friend.
