Digger Cartwright welcomes you to the world of online dating in The House of Dark Shadows. On the outside, it appears that Alex Rommel has everything. He has the best of everything, but on the inside, he is just a lonely man. When he meets an old friend, he finds out that his old buddy found love on the internet and is blissful to say the least. Envious and desperate to let go of the past and lost love, Alex ventures into the world of online dating to see what it has in store for him.

The murky world of internet dating brings Hope in his life. Hope is a French journalist and just about everything he ever desired. But she has her own secrets and her past. It appears that something sinister is coming towards him from all directions. His mother is constantly badgering him, his lusting secretary is getting on his nerves, his business is getting more demanding, and Hope is making him suspicious. There are shadows all around him and he cannot decipher if any of them are friendly or all of them are enemies. Can he rescue himself before all is lost and he is destroyed?

Since I started reading this novel, I have been thinking of a word to describe Alex Rommel. The only word I find suitable enough is jaded. The House of Dark Shadows is an amazing psychological thriller and it entices the reader from the get go. The storyline is good and very entertaining. Alex is a little tough to love, but I think that is just a part of his character. Nonetheless the novel was good and deserves to be read again and again.

The House of Dark Shadows by Digger Cartwright is an award winning romantic suspense novel. Alex Rommel has everything he ever wanted – a good job, money in the bank, a nice place to live, and women falling at his feet. The only thing he doesn’t have is Shannon. She disappeared years before and, no matter how hard he tries, he can’t find her. A chance meeting with Brad, an old college friend, tempts Alex into the world of internet dating. Signing up, he meets what he thinks is the woman of his dreams, a woman by the name of Hope. Things are never as they seem though, and Alex finds himself drawn into a dark, deep web of deception, lies and danger. Alex is fighting to escape the house of dark shadows but time is running out for him.

The House of Dark Shadows by Digger Cartwright is classed as a romantic suspense, but it also falls into the genre of psychological thriller – one of the very best I have ever read. It has a good pace to it, the story unfolding throughout the book as more secrets and lies are uncovered. You might think you’ve got the story sorted in your mind but, all of a sudden, it will take another twist that leads you to yet another conclusion. The ending is not what you expect it to be and you are led up to it by a maze of twists and turns that keep you turning the pages, desperate to know what’s going to happen. The story is a strong one, as is the development of the characters, and it all fitted together like the perfect jigsaw puzzle – only the last piece fits where you least expect it to. Excellent story, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A place of confusion, desperation, and heartbreak fully defines the metaphorical title of The House of Dark Shadows by Digger Cartwright. Alex is resolved to live the loveless life of a successful bachelor when the love of his life disappears into thin air, and he is left only with the scent of her perfume and the memory of unrequited dreams. Given the hope that Shannon is still alive, Alex employs the Pinkerton Agency to find her. It is the only way he can fathom going on with his life. There is no other woman for him.

When an old college friend introduces Alex to the lovely Lisa, whom he found through an internet dating service, he becomes intrigued with the possibilities cyber space dating offers. Maybe he could and would find love in this unlikely avenue. Unwilling to succumb to the old adage of not seeing the forest for the trees, Alex goes against the stern advice of his loyal and loving secretary Marie by completing his own on-line dating dossier to ultimately meet the mysterious Hope. Hope claims to be “saving herself for marriage” and is adamant the man to secure that position is Alex.

Digger Cartwright weaves a suspenseful tale of intrigue and mystery in The House of Dark Shadows by intertwining a delicious twentieth century romance with the ugliness of business greed. Questions go unanswered and the security of true love is portrayed as a precarious reality in this fast paced, gritty, mind-puzzling story.
