The Horseless Horsemen: Rita is the second book in the series by Ross C Miller. The story follows Rita as she battles dangers she never thought she would. After being murdered, Rita inexplicably wakes up in the body of another recently killed woman and quickly learns this isn’t a one-time phenomenon. Her path collides with the mysterious Grey Man, a living, radioactive corpse introduced in Jude, who is on a parallel mission of vengeance and justice. As she involuntarily shifts into one fresh corpse after another, she discovers her purpose: to confront and stop the real monsters responsible for these brutal acts and help the Grey Man in this pursuit. Soon, Rita realizes her ability to hear the Grey Man’s thoughts and discovers that they are connected in more ways than one. However, can they truly work together when his very presence could destroy her?

Author Ross C. Miller delivers another adrenaline-inducing, emotionally charged ride in Rita. He skillfully blends paranormal horror with a compelling mystery, making this a perfect suspense novel. The unique body-hopping concept adds a layer of unpredictability and urgency to the narrative, keeping readers on edge. Rita is a fantastic protagonist. She is vulnerable, fierce, and full of purpose. Her character arc and struggles give the story an emotional core. The Grey Man, still enigmatic and tragic, adds depth and continuity for returning readers while also providing a fascinating twist to Rita’s journey. The hunt for the "real monsters" and the inherent dangers of their existence suggest another dark and gripping installment ahead in the series. The Horseless Horsemen: Rita is fascinating, to say the least. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Rita: The Horseless Horsemen Book 2 by Ross C. Miller is a haunting and high-concept paranormal suspense novel that grips from the first page and refuses to let go. In this stand-alone sequel to Jude, we follow Rita, a woman who wakes up in the freshly murdered bodies of others, and is forced to solve their deaths and confront her own. With the help of a radioactive vigilante known only as the Grey Man, she begins to understand her strange fate and the dark justice it demands. Brutal, emotionally charged, and refreshingly original, Rita is a ride through grief, vengeance, and redemption wrapped in a supernatural thriller that’s as thoughtful as it is terrifying.

Author Ross C. Miller is a writer who always captures the suspense of a scene with razor-sharp focus, and that’s on display from cover to cover in this wildly conceptual novel executed with haunting precision. Rita’s shocking awakenings are riveting from the first moment, and this makes for an emotionally raw and psychologically intense story full of small and intimate narrative details to let us into every corner of not just our hero’s mind, but the forms of those she inhabits. This is a kind of paranormal thriller that’s like nothing I’ve ever read before. I loved the confident flow of story beats and how Miller held us in jeopardy, yet the plot never lost control or felt too convoluted to follow. Overall, Rita: The Horseless Horsemen Book 2 is an unnerving, fast-paced, and heartbreakingly human story that stands alone as an excellent thriller, but is also a brilliant addition to the series so far.

The Horseless Horsemen: Rita by Ross C. Miller is book two in the titular series, preceded by book one, Jude. The series starts with Justice, an MIT-educated engineer and veteran, who dies during a Fukushima mission after a second quake triggers a catastrophe. Contaminated by radiation, he's buried with honors. His colleague Robert, also exposed, is haunted by guilt. Years later, a man suffers physical decay and mental collapse, wandering aimlessly, lost in confusion and isolation, until fragmented memories start returning. Now, after her own violent death, Rita begins waking in the bodies of other murdered women. With each shift, the pattern becomes clearer. Her path soon converges with the Grey Man, a decaying figure who hunts human monsters. Though dangerous and radioactive, his mind connects with hers, revealing they need each other to finish what death itself couldn’t stop.

“I might not have the right perspective, or the right context of everything, but killing the killers doesn’t seem like it was all that hard.” The Horseless Horsemen: Rita by Ross C. Miller is a wonderful mix of psychology, the supernatural, vigilantism, and suspense, told through Miller's trademark, strikingly original storytelling. I like how this series plays with time, and we get a sense that time itself seems frayed, looping and echoing in disorienting ways. Rita is a spectacular main character with trauma from her past, and even outside the paranormal elements, she carries those wounds in a way that manifests like ghosts, and they do haunt her. As always, Miller refrains from jump scares or clichés, although I admit that looking in the mirror and seeing a bullet in my face might be a bit jarring. Still, the singularity comes from a bold metaphysical framework of body transfers that introduces a fresh logic to identity and the afterlife. With consistency and canyons of depth, this novel elevates the supernatural and makes me excited for what comes next.

The Horseless Horsemen: Rita by Ross C Miller is the second book in the series and delivers a chilling journey into a world where death is just the beginning. After her brutal murder, Rita awakens inside the body of another victim, beaten to death mere moments before. With each involuntary transfer, she realizes she must unravel a sinister web of killings before becoming a permanent pawn in a deadly game. To reclaim her fate, she seeks the aid of the Grey Man, a radioactive corpse with a penchant for tracking hidden monsters. But can she trust him? Can she survive his lethal glow while dealing with her spectral powers?

The Horseless Horsemen: Rita is a gripping tale that blends paranormal suspense with horror as Rita dives headfirst into darkness, where survival may not even be an option. Ross C Miller creates an imaginative world in this tale. The connection between Rita and the Grey Man is fascinating and expertly explored. After death, Rita develops unique skills. Her ability to hear the Grey Man's thoughts and communicate with him wordlessly is intriguing. I loved the writing — crisp and descriptive. The conflict moves from Rita’s struggles with her new form and abilities to confrontations with encroaching monsters. The key characters are genuinely flawed and imagined with traits that accentuate their humanity. This novel is a winning entry into the series and can be read as a standalone novel. It is deftly plotted and executed with detail and intelligence, a gorgeous read for lovers of urban fantasy with unforgettable characters and phenomenal conflict.

The second installment of The Horseless Horsemen by Ross C. Miller centers around Rita. Since age seven, Rita was subjected to abuse by her mother’s boyfriend, and having grown up in an orphanage, she struggled to trust others. Rita believed that some individuals needed to be kept off the streets, so she decided to join the U.S. Marshal’s Office, Tactical Division. After a robotics engineer drowned in contaminated water following an incident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant, something unusual occurred at his burial site. Someone was apprehending the most notorious criminals and kidnappers, and traces of radiation were consistently present. Rita and her fellow deputies named this mysterious figure the Grey Man. During an operation, Rita was shot. Following her death, Rita found herself in a place where she was offered the chance to undertake a task. Rita was sent back to exact punishment on humanity and assist the Grey Man.

The Horseless Horsemen: Rita by Ross C. Miller was a thrilling journey through the realms of the paranormal, murder, mystery, and danger. The storyline was captivating and held my attention from beginning to end. The writing style was compelling, and the tension kept me completely absorbed. I found myself racing through the pages, eager to discover what would happen next. The events were vividly described, making them easy to picture. The characters were well-crafted and believable. Rita's character, particularly after experiencing life in different bodies, along with the Grey Man, felt authentic. These supernatural beings blended seamlessly with the ordinary characters. This was an exceptional story that was masterfully written. I truly enjoyed reading the book, and it surpassed all my expectations.
