The Heir of Woodmyst exposes the depths and the height of conflict when good and evil collide. Robert E. Kreig writes a compelling story of survival, fantasy style. Full of brilliant and enticing word usage, Kreig has the ability to paint scenes that the reader can easily step into. Your senses are challenged and come alive, feeling the bitter cold, the overwhelming fear, the weariness of endless travel, not to mention the blood, sweat and tears of battle. The characters are fierce, relentless and courageous. They are kind and caring and equally evil and malicious. When united, whether evil or good, they are a force to be reckoned with. This type of characterization creates engaging battle scenes. Although horrific in nature, Kreig doesn’t go overboard with the gory details. As the characters evolve and grow, their true temperament is revealed. What has been cloaked and shadowed becomes obvious and, at times, diabolically clear. I appreciated the increased bond and fervor of the male characters, and the growing unity between the female characters.

The story moves quickly, the point of view changes from character to character. As this occurs, the setting translates to their surroundings. This captivating technique makes the narrative very difficult to put down. As the plot progresses and the showdown draws nigh, Kreig throws in a few surprises. The ending brings a sigh of relief, yet an expectation that this story is far from over.

This book is definitely a journey, showing you how the entire group travels throughout the region, attempting to fulfill their mission. But there is a lot of action with battles as they attempt to get where they need to go and, of course, the travel itself. Plus there's a little bit of romance going on too, which makes for a well-rounded story. I liked the way you were able to see the characters from both sides of the fight, both the White Witch and the men who were hunting her. There were plenty of things going on for both and being able to see what they were thinking helped you really be drawn in and not entirely sure which side you wanted to win.

The Heir Of Woodmyst: Book Three Of The Woodmyst Chronicles by Robert E Kreig is the follow-up to his previous two works in the Woodmyst Chronicles. It starts off with the white witch fleeing north and being hunted, and then we see things pick up where the previous novel had left off. Survivors of an attack are picking up the pieces and trying to decide what to do next after burning the bodies of their companions and friends. Then, we see a group of young girls being taken into the care of a mysterious woman, and they are unsure of exactly what is going on or why. Gradually, the plot unfolds and we start to see the woman's intentions, and that's when things really get interesting.

The writing is excellent, and the author is to be commended for his ability to create interesting characters and fill his story with both humor and chilling details. Emily, in particular, is a compelling character as she searches for her sister Joanne. The reason behind the Sovereign's agenda ends up feeling a little cliched, but the story is interesting enough to make it a compelling read nonetheless. The novel ends with a setup for the next book in the series, likely another piece that will pick up where this one left off. This book is the third in the series, but enough details are spread throughout to make it possible for newcomers to catch up fairly easily as well. Readers of this series will find The Heir Of Woodmyst: Book Three Of The Woodmyst Chronicles by Robert E Kreig to be an excellent entry, and it is sure to delight both new and old fans.

The Heir Of Woodmyst is the third book in the fantasy series The Woodmyst Chronicles. Robert E Kreig continues to tell the story of Tomas, his friends and his foes. Tomas and his supporters follow a ship of attackers that have kidnapped women and their daughters after violently slaughtering the men, old and young. One of the girls had managed to escape before they were all put on the ship. Tomas can't just sit by and do nothing while the captives are shipped to who knows what kind of destiny. Along the way, they encounter dangerous beasts, dangerous people, and more than just one witch.

The Heir Of Woodmyst by Robert E Kreig was a very nice read with characters who were well developed during the previous books and have now turned into very well rounded characters. I enjoyed how the books developed from book 1 to book 3 and there is still more to come! You not only get to see Tomas' point of view, but also see what happens to one of the kidnapped girls. Plus you get to follow the path of one of the witches who will play an important role in future books, too. What I enjoyed most about this book, and the other two in the series, is the author's ability to describe the unseen. You kind of feel nervous, too, because you can't be sure what's lurking in the shadows. I found myself thinking: "What is it now? What is it now?" There is a certain type of suspense going on in parts, and it's rather well done.
