I just finished an absolutely wonderful book by debut author Faerl Marie, and am so excited to be able to share it with readers who love chick lit or women's fiction! The Golden Apple was simply a compelling book and one that I am so pleased to wholeheartedly endorse! Follow the story of Poppy Parker, a newly widowed woman who, understandably, is feeling pretty directionless after the loss of her husband. Needing a fresh start, she leaves the security of her beautiful home and close family in Georgia and moves to New York City. She's determined to open a boutique and start anew, living her life on her own terms for perhaps the first time. Still grieving the loss of her husband, a man who was nearly perfect, she isn't really ready to move on in her personal life, but when her old friend, Austin Bandy, a man who's loved Poppy for years, finds that she's returned to New York, he hopes there might be an opportunity for him to be looked at as more than just a friend. Will Poppy be able to move on, to be happy again? Only time will tell.
I so, so enjoyed this charming novel. Author Faerl Marie has done a splendid job at creating characters that her readers will truly connect with and care about, and will continue to think about long after they have read the book. If that isn't a hallmark of a gifted author, I'm not sure what is. The Golden Apple will appeal to any reader who enjoys chick lit, a story with an interesting female lead, those who have dealt with grief and loss, or simply a person looking for a great read. I highly recommend this book, as well as say that I will be watching for more from author Faerl Marie. This gifted newcomer is certainly one to watch, her talent won't stay a secret for long!
