The Girl and her Pony: A Stunning Tale of Hope and Friendship by Angharad Thompson Rees is the third book in the Magical Adventures and Pony Tales series. Franny is the daughter of a poor farmer and has only one simple wish. One day when watching the royal procession pass by, she finds herself in awe of the horses. She would do anything to have one of her very own. Her wish comes true in the most unexpected way when she discovers a lost pony. The wild pony is more than she could have hoped for, even if it was let go by the king’s orders for brazen and wild behavior. To Franny, the horse is perfect and soon the two become inseparable. But when the spoiled princess decides she wants the horse back, the two will have to fight to stay together.

Franny is the daughter of a poor farmer that’s never had a lot of possessions, but she’s always had what truly matters which is love and family. Sonnet is a wild pony that’s so untamable that the king has her released outside royal grounds just to get rid of her. The connection between pony and girl is immediate with a bond that goes so deep that the pony allows her girl to ride her. The pony finds someone that she belongs to and that can belong to her which is what makes their connection so genuine. Franny has honest happiness in her life thanks to her parents' loving example so even though they’re poor, they’re rich in what matters most: love.

Angharad Thompson Rees uses the contrast between the princess’s spoiled nature and Franny’s gentle heart to show young readers what should really be valued in life. This contrast provides a subtle commentary on how Franny builds a bond with the pony through gentleness and friendship while the princess treats the pony cruelly and ends up bucked off. The Girl and her Pony is about an unexpected friendship in a tale that is full of heart and love with a journey that brings to life the true meaning of happiness, the value of love above all, and a lesson in how having riches won’t be what makes you happy.
