The Gentleman's Miscalculation is the third book in Laura Beers' The Lockwood Family series. It's 1813. Lord Winston Lockwood has established himself as a barrister in London and provided his Aunt Sarah and her son Matthew with protection from Sarah's abusive husband, Isaac Blythe. After the tragic deaths of her aunt and uncle, Miss Mattie Bawden suddenly finds herself taking care of her cousin, Francesca. When Lady Dallington offers to host Mattie for the upcoming Season, Mattie is forced to confront her conflicting feelings toward Winston. Meanwhile, Isaac has returned and hatches a nefarious plan to get Sarah and Matthew back, with Mattie becoming the unwitting victim in his schemes. Winston must now find a way to save Mattie and ensure Sarah and Matthew are out of Isaac's clutches. What's next in store for Winston and Mattie?

Readers of Regency romance will savor The Gentleman's Miscalculation with relish. With delightful romance, humor, and unexpected plot twists and turns, Laura Beers' captivating novel mesmerizes you from start to finish. The author perfectly captures the setting of Regency England, especially the peculiarities of the social norms and how people used to act and talk during that period. It makes the characters feel authentic and the story much more immersive. The plot is paced very well and keeps your attention until the end. Mattie and Winston have amazing chemistry, but I was also invested in the side characters like Elodie and Melody. All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. If you enjoy historical fiction or are a fan of Regency romance, grab a copy and treat yourself!
