T.J. Sedgwick is a British science fiction novelist based in New Zealand.
His books include the novels, 'Overlord,' (2015), 'The Second Coming' (2015) and the 'Home Planet' series (2016). His new dystopian novel, 'The Free Citizen', set in a late-21st Century American dictatorship, is planned for release in September-2019.
All of T.J.'s books feature at least some hard sci-fi and include elements of espionage, military, action and political context. His fascination with the future, technology, extra-terrestrial life and human society helps feed his ideas. His influences in fiction include Adrian Tchaikovsky, Michael Crichton, Nick Kernick, Christopher Nuttall and Robert Harris.

The Free Citizen by T.J. Sedgwick is a futuristic sci-fi tale set several decades into the future. The year is 2082 and Earth has been ravaged by an alien parasite that turns people into Screamers. Most of Europe has fallen and only a few safe places remain around the world. Calvin Rae is sent on a mission to retrieve an AI prototype that could save humanity. Calvin acquires the AI but his mission sets him on a path to discover the truth. His chip was outfitted to help him complete his missions and record in real time but could it also be a tool of control? He is confused by his last mission and beginning to question everything he’s been told.
As technology improves at an astronomical rate and some express concern about what it means for the future, The Free Citizen is a timely novel that addresses these topics. T.J. Sedgwick has taken this popular conspiracy theory and turned it into a breathtaking action sci-fi story. I also liked the fact that the author acknowledges how technology will always be a danger to humans as long as there are evil men in power. And where evil rises, good is always there to fight it head-on. With the hero being a soldier, fans of military fiction will enjoy Calvin’s mission. The Free Citizen also has a family focus as it explores the impact of technology on relationships and how people might perceive certain topics in the future. I guess the biggest question is whether our very humanity can be taken over by computer AIs.
