The Fixer: The Invisibles by Ozzie Logozzo follows FBI top negotiator and profiler Alexandra (Alex) Stone, who works to save lives in hostage situations. Alex's work is currently weighing her down with guilt due to her past failed attempts at saving her sister and many others in hostage situations. She is also haunted by guilt for not being the mother she'd wanted to be and for lacking a social life. Her situation makes her question the cost of her work; at what expense is she saving lives? A beep on her phone during and after a hostage situation calls her attention to a remote island, with tales of this location riddled with mystery and misfortune. Alex is adamantly fearless and makes it her mission to uncover the mystery behind this island. Her endeavor leads her to a secret that unravels masks of power, control, rebellion, manipulation, deceit, and possible redemption, which ultimately defines the nature of her work and acceptance of the inevitable in her line of duty.

Ozzie Logozzo gives The Fixer a compelling plot that unravels through several twists, revealing secrets and manipulation, which kept me hooked to the narrative from start to finish. The pacing starts moderately and then proceeds to a steady high as each secret and manipulative layer unravels, resulting in tense moments in the narrative following Alex's work and personal life. However, the author offers moments of fleeting relief in Alex's home life and personal encounters. The author explores themes of power, family, rebellion, redemption, and control, which are a hallmark of this story. I highly recommend The Fixer to readers who love high-stakes narratives hinged on the thin balance between life and death in hostage situations.
