The Farting Gnome: Farting Book For Kids by Grampy Greg is about Julian the gnome who finds so much delight in shocking his neighborhood with his irrepressible farts. He's a proud fart champion who does it everywhere and whenever he can, and even makes sure that he eats a 100% fart-guaranteed diet. Not all of his community members find him amusing, but his major goal is to point out that absolutely everyone farts and that we shouldn't try to stop them since it will just backfire and farts will always win. We must realize that farting is something we shouldn't be ashamed of because it's a perfectly natural bodily process that happens to all of us and, as the book states, "letting farts be free is the best and only way."
Though a lot of people of all ages find farting either funny or natural, we do need to teach the proper way of handling a fart, whether you're the giver or on the receiving end. Unless a person is a sport when it comes to teasing or joking, it's never nice to humiliate someone because of a fart, especially for young kids who can sometimes make passing gas an excuse to make fun of someone. The Farting Gnome can be a clever and cheeky way to break the ice when it comes to introducing proper manners to children whenever they find themselves in a toot, break wind, or SBD (silent but deadly) scenario. Young readers will find the colorful illustrations and adorable characters easy to relate to, especially the comedic yet philosophical pixie hero Julian and the rest of his pint-sized community. Grampy Greg uses rhythmic and simple pattern language with funny and sound-inducing or "noisy" words that are especially effective in making the story sound hilarious and memorable for kids. Recommended for pre-school readers and above. Let's give five stars to this book!
