Debra Dugger continues to captivate us with her young detectives in The Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency: And the Case of the Missing Ghost. Abby, Toby, and Billy are teenagers who take their business seriously, though they can’t tell very many adults they work for ghosts in the OtherWorld spirit realm. In a previous case, they had to bring in a medium, Arthur Monsento, to communicate with the undead and he becomes an invaluable asset to their agency. Finding the lost ghost takes Arthur to the UnderWorld, where things become dangerous for him if he cannot leave before he fades away to nothing. The teenagers must discover where Arthur disappeared with the help of a goblin.
I loved the camaraderie between Arthur, the teenagers, and the spirits of the OtherWorld in The Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency. Debra Dugger breathes life into her characters as they work together to find this ghost. The depth of the mystery is intriguing as there is so much more to this novel than a missing ghost. The story rotates between Arthur Monsento and Abby narrating their version of events. It is fun hearing Arthur’s grumpy outlook compared to Abby’s viewpoint mixed with a teen girl drama. This is the third book in the series and I believe Debra Dugger has found her niche in fantasy adventure. Though you could read this novel without the other two, you will find you enjoy it so much you will want to read the others. I highly recommend this book for its gripping plot and enchanting characters.
