The Energy by Matthew Rasmusson is a tale of supernatural powers. Milo awakens on his 17th birthday after another strange dream. Coming out of the bathroom, he falls into a fit, something that he has not had for 5 years. He hears voices all around him, sometimes in his head, sometimes not. A serious incident is about to befall Milo and he will not come out of it unscathed. He is left with supernatural powers, powers that give him rule over Fire and Ice. His powers came from the Gods and he is tasked with mediating between the dwellers on Earth and the Gods. If he refuses his task, he will be purged by the Gods. He is trained by three mentors, Gods who are on his side, and he learns how to survive. But nothing can prepare Milo for what awaits him, or for the journey he must take to find his purpose.

The Energy by Matthew Rasmusson was something different. It was full of life, fast and thrilling to read, but I must confess that I found it a little too much to keep up with at times and did, on occasion, get a little lost. However, I found it to be well written and the characters were developed in a way that made them easy to understand and identify with. A modern day thriller mixed with a supernatural tale, highly descriptive and lots of information to take in, all of which lends itself fully to the story. There are no loose ends and no extraneous wanderings in this book. Full of action and unstoppable, this is a must read-for any fan of this genre.
