The Demon Hunter and The Black Skull is the fourth installment in The Demon Hunter Series by Henry Regnault. Demon hunter Cadence Mage is listening to the stories of Finn Meyer, a dying man with secrets to reveal. As the stories develop, Cadence battles demons one after the other in search of a mysterious black skull with extraordinary powers. Meanwhile, Laura names the black witch Samantha, who has held Meadow, Cadence's lifelong love, trapped inside her body. During one of the attacks by the minions of the vine tree queen and the blood god, Laura gets bitten by a vampire demon, leading to her transformation. While Cadence begins to fall in love with Samantha, he must also prepare for a final confrontation with the blood god and the vine tree queen, who have taken one of his friends hostage.
Having read a couple of earlier books in this series, I have to say Henry Regnault has a knack for delivering entertaining dark fantasy thrillers featuring lots of action, romance, and powerful magical battle sequences. If you enjoyed the hit TV series Lucifer, you will love The Demon Hunter and The Black Skull. With a fast-paced narrative and an engaging plot, Regnault ensures readers are immersed in what's happening in the pages. There is no fat or fluff in this book. I really enjoyed the burgeoning romance between Cadence and Samantha and Cadence's conflicting feelings toward it. It adds some depth to his character, making him more relatable to the reader. All in all, this entire series is a treat for dark fantasy aficionados.
