The Dark Eve: A Witch's Curse is a work of fiction in the fantasy, adventure, and supernatural sub-genres, and was penned by author T. K. Thompson. In the second book in the Dark Eve Series, we find ourselves back in an immersive world of supernatural powers and wicked deeds as we return to the Pirate Queen Acantha and her exploits. In this installment of the young adult series, Acantha finds a rare opportunity to come face to face with her nemesis, the witch, but falls short of protecting herself from the old crone’s incredible powers. So begins an epic adventure that intertwines the past and present, revealing yet more darkness to come and putting our roguish hero to the test once more.
Author T. K. Thompson has crafted a really dynamic continuation of her epic fantasy series which is sure to be enjoyed by both the YA target age group and older readers seeking exploration and adventure. I loved the pirate-esque historical feel of the novel, which is repurposed beautifully into an alternate-world fantasy setting so that we experience both the familiar and the surprising in the imagery and action. The world is inventively built and lavishly described, giving cinematic vistas for Acantha to explore. Character development-wise, we see this woman tested to discover new facets of her own character, and the emotional arc is heartfelt and well-paced. Overall, I would highly recommend The Dark Eve: A Witch's Curse and the series in general for fans of immersive fantasy with plenty of drama and action from cover to cover.
