Janet Delane gets into trouble with technological devices all the time. Either they don't function properly or break in her presence. One sunny Connecticut day, Janet's floatcar accidentally damaged the roof of the City Hall. As a result, Janet found herself in the Galactic Universal Peacemongering Paradigm Emergent Action Spacefleet, or GUPPEAS. Janet must lead a rescue mission to Pluto to bring Dr. Pilar Villarreal back to Earth after he got into trouble with Pluto's Exalted Leader. Her ship is outdated, the computer ignores her, the motley crew is not happy about the dangerous mission ahead, and there's a real possibility that they have a Plutonian saboteur on board. The banning of chocolate on Pluto makes the whole expedition a real challenge for the young and inexperienced Captain Delane. The Cosmic Turkey by Laura Ruth Loomis is a humorous account of Janet Delane's interplanetary adventures.
The Cosmic Turkey is action-packed and captivating. Laura Ruth Loomis has a great sense of humor and the book abounds with hilarious scenes and situations. At the same time, the book gives us food for thought. Janet Delane turns out to be a strong-willed young woman who never gives up. I liked her character enormously. Janet knows her weak points and is always ready for personal growth. She sees a challenge ahead and goes for it, despite the difficult circumstances (like the lack of caffeine which is also banned by the overly evil Exalted Leader). The author created a credible romantic storyline involving Janet and the handsome Ambassador Beau Dangere. The world-building is exceptional. Janet's crew are aliens with uncommon features and tricky backgrounds, while the strong plot holds many surprises for readers. I also appreciated the stellar editorial work. I recommend the book to all fans of the sci-fi and adventure genres.
