With a last name like Noel, you know that I enjoy Christmas! I am a retired teacher who enjoyed reading books like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson with my students. These were exciting, well-written books but lacked any kind of a Christian perspective. As a Christian, this was a problem for me. I wanted to give young readers an exciting series of adventure books that also had a Christian worldview. Thus was born "The Centurions" series, books set in the age of knights and shieldmaidens with dragons, werewolves, and other magical creatures on the prowl, where problems of faith, as well as courage, must be faced.

The Centurions have selected Portia, Brendan, and a number of colleagues to "Winter" at Nordhaven for the Christmas holidays in 946 A.D. Everything goes according to plan until they meet a pack of werewolves led by Thorliek. The werewolves plan to destroy the Centurions and invade Germany, Francia, and all of Europe to increase their army. However, the Centurions refuse to go down without a fight. Portia and her entourage must defeat the werewolves and stand their ground against the children of the Black Dragon, the Vikings, and a mysterious evil known as The Father. Every one of these challenges will come to test their faith as they wage a bloody war for their lives and all of Europe. David Noel presents a compelling and strategy-focused Book Two in The Centurions series with The Werewolf's Gift.
Picture Hercules, The 300, Braveheart, or any awesome historical battle narratives and replace one of the armies with super-strong, quick-healing werewolves. David Noel takes readers into a mind-stimulating narrative that includes intricate details about battle strategies, combat techniques, and medieval weapons. Several quotable lines and Bible passages in The Centurions got me deep in thought about life and philosophy. I was fully engaged by the fast-paced action and the fun characters of the teenage protagonists. David Noel's book would appeal to historical, war, Christian, adventure, and fantasy book fans. Though The Werewolf's Gift is more centered on war, I was glad to see that it maintains some of the adventurous feel I loved about Book 1 and even goes further to give a more profound and exhilarating experience.
