From New York to Miami to the US Virgin Islands, private investigator Joey Mancuso and his team work diligently to solve the case of a missing young woman in The Case of the Antiquities Collector: A Joey Mancuso, Father O’Brian Crime Mystery (Volume 4) by Owen Parr. As ‘the victim’s last advocate’, Mancuso leaves no stone unturned, even as the case takes on a life of its own with international overtones, and the threat of becoming victims themselves keeps the team on their toes. Each answer leads only to more questions as the web of intrigue continues to grow far beyond the scope of the original assignment. Cooperation with the FBI and numerous other law enforcement agencies makes Mancuso’s unorthodox methods difficult to employ, but nothing will stop the intrepid detective from solving his case. In spite of the danger, the hunt for the ultimate bad guy is on, and as Mancuso himself says, ‘Of course, I thrived on the twists and loops.’
This is definitely a must-read series for the mystery/intrigue fan! Owen Parr has created the perfect vehicle for great action, intense characters and clever plot surprises with this series, and The Case of the Antiquities Collector shows off Parr’s skill to its maximum benefit. Although Volume 4 in the series, A Joey Mancuso, Father O’Brian Crime Mystery, it is possible to read this book without having read the others, but you would be missing out on the richness of Parr’s storytelling prowess as well as some of the subtle connections and underlying dynamics between the recurring characters. Great writing and a superior concept make The Case of the Antiquities Collector a book you won’t want to miss.
