The Cancer Complexity: Exploring Advanced Prostate Cancer and Leukemia: A Personal Experience by Anthony Edwards is about a cancer survivor who fought the odds. Edwards always thought he would live a long, fulfilling life. As a practitioner of Applied Kinesiology and Hypnotherapy, he believed he had checked all the boxes for a good life. However, things changed dramatically when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. While his doctor was preparing to treat him, Anthony was looking into numbing the pain. His way of coping with this involved researching prostate cancer, finding ways to fight it, and educating more men about the dangers of prostate cancer. Fearlessly candid and incredibly raw, Edwards shared his journey of survival one painful step after the other to document his success.
There was something special about The Cancer Complexity; Anthony Edwards kept the perfect balance between a memoir and a story. He told his story in style and with a lyrical prowess that left me breathless. There was an indistinguishable flow to the read and the pace it created. I loved how the author shared his experiences without making them a sob story. I could feel his confusion, pain, and desire to do something about it. Readers are moved from disbelief to confusion to acceptance. The chapter titled Concede is so powerful and emotionally moving that I was brought to tears. There was something magical about this book that had me hooked without it being a warrior tale of screams and shouts; it was surprisingly calm and collected. It was as if Edwards had a plan in mind and he was following it to the best of his abilities. This book would be a great guide for someone who wants to understand the disease and prepare for it. They will know what to expect, how to tackle it, and hopefully, come out of it a winner.
