D.A. Batrowny’s The Broken Cart is a good book for children learning how to read. The story follows Smart Artt as he goes to the circus with his family. Upon hearing that the circus is closed due to a broken cart, he attempts to repair it and ends up saving the day.
The Broken Cart is a great book for parents to read with their children. The children are able to focus on the colorful illustrations and find what Smart Artt is looking for in the picture. It is also a good book for children who are just learning to read. The words are easy and some are repetitive, which helps children to recognize them on sight. My four-year-old was able to read the book with ease and enjoyed the different circus animals in the book. At the back of the book there is information for parents on what they can expect from their child when they reach the age of three. I found this information helpful and compared it with my own child’s development.
D.A. Batrowny has four other books in her Smart Artt series with The Broken Cart being the fifth book. The first book, Welcome Smart Artt, features Smart Artt as a baby. I really like how the Smart Artt series grows with your child. This is the type of series that I would like my child to read. I look forward to reading more Smart Artt books with my child in the future.
