The Brief Haunting of Raspberry Hill by Jaime Marsman is a Crabapple Yarns Mystery story. Natalie Wolcott had always believed that her Grandma Rose died when she was two – until she gets a letter telling her that she is to inherit a third of Rose’s estate following her recent death. The will states that Natalie and the two other beneficiaries have to live in Rose’s mansion for a precise period of one year, three months, and four days before they are eligible to inherit. The beneficiaries are Natalie, her mother and an adopted cousin – three people who don’t always see eye to eye – but someone or something doesn’t want them there. Is it someone from town? Her mother? With tales of murder floating round, Natalie meets a ghost in the basement. Thinking she is safe at her new job at Crabapple Yarns, Natalie couldn’t be more wrong. As disaster strikes, Natalie has a mystery on her hands, one that she must solve before murder becomes the name of the game again. Just who was Grandma Rose and what really happened all those years ago?
The Brief Haunting of Raspberry Hill (A Crabapple Yarns Mystery) by Jaime Marsman was a fun and light-hearted read. Full of fantastic, colorful characters, this book ended the way it started – with a bang. Action all the way, this is a well-paced story with plenty of suspense, humor, scares and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. Yes, it was pretty obvious for me who was behind it all but that doesn’t detract anything from this story. Think Columbo – we know who did it, but it's all about getting there and this book does a grand job of that. The characters are wonderfully developed, fitting in with the lively plot perfectly, and each playing their part to bring the story well and truly alive. Great story, a fun read, and an enjoyable way to pass a few hours on a rainy day.
