The Book of Now is the third volume of poetry written by Sherry Rentschler. This is a book that would appeal most to a mixed audience made up of young adults and adults who enjoy poetry and enjoy reading a mix of poetry topics. This book is a collection of poems on topics which include terrorism, politics, domestic abuse of women, domestic abuse of children, human nature, and Mother Nature. The poems are written with the goal of expanding a person’s understanding of the world in order to inspire people to help create a better future. Are you ready and prepared to open your mind to the four elements of chaos that are destroying the world?
The Book of Now by Sherry Rentschler was an interesting read as its poems covered many different topics, yet they all share the common theme of educating people about the world to improve the world. The fact that the goal was to teach in order to improve is what got me through many of the poems as some were rather heartbreaking. The poems on domestic abuse of both women and children were particularly heart-wrenching, because while I know domestic abuse does happen, these poems made me understand the emotions behind it and they made me truly feel for the victims. Sherry Rentschler's writing style was well chosen as she did not pull her punches or use sugar-coated words to hide the evil in the topics her poems covered; instead her poems examine true events as they unfold in reality.
