The Blood of Titans by C. Michael Forsyth is a historical novel which takes place in the dawn of African history. It is also a romance between Halima, a princess from the coastal kingdom of Kali and King Shomari, ruler of a mysterious race of "giants" who live in a secluded village in the mountains. C. Michael Forsyth does a good job of describing the life of the people of this time and especially the life of a privileged and pampered royal princess. The book begins with the kingdom of Kali being threatened by the surrounding powers. In order to strengthen his position and secure the safety and prosperity of his kingdom, King Babatunde must marry his daughter to the King of The Snake People. The princess is reluctant at first but, being a dutiful and obedient daughter, she makes peace with her father's decision and hopes for the best. The marriage is destined to fail from the start, however, and her betrothed is hardly the hero she had hoped he might be. After a series of misadventures and close calls, Halima finds herself a prisoner of a mountain tribe, the Abaka. It is here that she will find the man and king she has dreamed of.

The Blood of Titans tells a tale about a period and place rarely featured in Western literature and C.Michael Forsyth does a good job of bringing the characters and setting to life. It is a must-read for anyone interested in African history and folklore, and who enjoys a good romance.
