The Biography of Prophets is a non-fiction Christian Biblical Study and Prophecy work written by Javon Rahman Bertrand. Bertrand is an author and apostle of the Restoration of Love Deliverance Center. He begins his study of the prophets with an examination of what a prophet is and by differentiating the prophetic mantle, the mandate and the anointing. The mantle is the calling by God directly to the prophet, which is passed on from earlier prophets. The mandate is the mission God chooses for each prophet. The anointing accompanies the mantle and the resulting healing and deliverance of his people, and the occurrence of miracles manifests the power of God through his prophet.
Prophets, Bertrand argues, are not just figures from the distant past, but exist today and perform the essential service of being God's messengers. They are God's voice and reveal to man the secrets and wonders of His kingdom. As believers, it is essential that the role of the prophets in speaking God's word be fully comprehended. Bertrand discusses common misconceptions about the prophets, and the all-encompassing fact that they only confirm the word of God and do not of themselves create the word. He presents the biographies of well-known prophets such as Samuel, Isaiah and Elijah, and then discusses lesser-known, or overlooked, prophets such as Anna, the Temple Prophet, Silas, the Team Prophet, and Iddo, the Grandfather Prophet.
Javon Rahman Bertrand's non-fiction Christian Biblical Study and Prophecy work, The Biography of Prophets, is a well-presented and thought-provoking look at prophets and prophecy, both from biblical times and in the modern-day world. I was intrigued by his insights and cautions on the concept, and inherent dangers, of false prophets and appreciated his scholarly analysis and debunking of the common misconceptions about prophets. The selection of prophets he includes in this book is especially interesting as he gives extensive historical data surrounding each prophet's life and influence on the church and state. The passages he uses from Scripture are always relevant to his subject and are a great help in fully assimilating his message. The Biography of Prophets is highly recommended.
