The Bench on Van Buren Street: Living the Dream by Alexander Flint is a cultural fiction novel that revolves around the colorful personalities walking daily on the Broadwalk, in Hollywood Beach, Florida. Sharing the almost 2 1/2-mile brick straightway of Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, many of them end up on the bench on Van Buren Street. And this includes tourists, residents and even dogs. Nowadays, one can hear snippets of English, French, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese in the air, mixing with the scent of salt water, fried grease, and sunblock lotions, enhancing the cultural and human diversity of this interesting corner of the world.

Alexander Flint's The Bench on Van Buren Street: Living the Dream is a collection of stories of people that pass by Hollywood Beach, specifically the famed Broadwalk. So many different kinds of people can be found here; artists, former hippies, homeless, the rich and the poor, intellectuals and weirdos, and many more. Author Alexander Flint certainly has a keen eye for people and, in this book, he collects a wide variety of personalities so diverse that some of us may be surprised. And this is what makes The Bench on Van Buren Street a very interesting read, indeed. It is easy to imagine what happens on a regular day in Hollywood Beach but it is more intriguing to anticipate how all these colorful personalities interact with each other. And as the author suggests, this must be how it is to live in paradise on earth.
