The Assignments by P.T. Dawkins is a spellbinding story that explores white-collar crime. A corporate merger that came with great promise changes everything for the notorious Wall Street Equity trader, Jonathan Black. He quickly discovers that he has lost his job and as if that wasn’t enough to drive him crazy, he is charged with using non-public information to make millions. Agent Margaret Stark, who specializes in white-collar crime, is after Black and she will stop at nothing to bring the man down. But Black seems to be smarter than she believed. Now, the FBI agent devises a plan that will put Black’s life and many others at risk. She offers him the chance to clear his name by working with her, so the assignments she gives him are designed to set him up and expose those like him. The stakes get higher as Black completes each assignment.

P.T. Dawkins demonstrates a good understanding of white-collar crime, taking the reader into a complex world of equity trading. Jonathan Black is a deep character with an insatiable craving for money. He is a multidimensional character and it is interesting to see the powerful effect he has on Maggie, the FBI agent. The plot is pulsating, containing that rare element that keeps readers following a character, always expecting something dramatic to happen — and a lot does happen in this story. The Assignments is cunningly plotted, the pacing is fast, and the characters are real, plus the author brings to life the reality of fraud and crime in the trading world in a masterly way.
