The Adventures of Polo the Bear: A Comic Book of Climate Change by Alan J. Hesse is the second book in a three-part series. This comic book begins with the fishing vessel heading back to port. Polo the bear is locked in the hold of the fishing vessel. He notices that they had caught a lot of tuna fish, which is also a threatened species. They reach Shanghai and even before they can sell the bear to the zoo, Polo escapes and finds himself in the middle of a busy market. He notices everyone in the market wearing masks. China creates 25% of the world's carbon emissions which is not good for the lungs. A seller finds it strange to see a white bear in the city and tells him to go west to meet Chinese Bears. Polo the Bear heads west and every place he goes to from thereon shows him the causes and effects of climate change.
The story is written from the perspective of Polo the Bear and tackles a relevant topic that is causing mass destruction globally. The comic will help readers understand that they have to fix the problem immediately before it is too late. Children love comics and this is the best way to make them understand a complex topic in a fun and interesting way. The book will take readers from China to Tibet to Bangladesh and into India, and show how every place, every society, and every living creature is affected by climate change. This three-part series is good to gift children and have in school libraries because of the awareness it gives to children about the world so that they can make changes and create a better place for everyone to live.
