A year after his death, Dr. John Seward edits and publishes a collection of private papers of his dear friend –- the late Abraham Van Helsing. Detailing his mostly unknown works, Terovolas is a spellbinding horror tale of the paranormal world of Van Helsing by Edward M. Erdelac.
The book consists of private journal entries by Van Helsing and edited by his friend Seward. Reading a compiled paranormal account like Terovolas is undeniably an exciting experience as it is more personal and mesmerizing. This element is definitely a bonus for a paranormal fan like me. There are also entries from A.N. Crooker, a reporter who is indebted to Van Helsing, and several others who are involved with the professor during his time in the Wild West. I am impressed with how Erdelac allows the reader to follow Van Helsing’s personal accounts, not from Chapter One but earlier with Seward’s foreword. Through his old friend’s perspective, readers who may or may not know Van Helsing beyond his work on Dracula will have a chance to delve more into what makes the enigmatic professor both scorned and admired in the scientific community.
Let us not forget that Van Helsing’s journal entries (newspaper clippings, personal diaries, and correspondences) are provided by himself, some by Seward, and some from Erdelac’s own personal research. Thus, Terovolas is not entirely illusory and it is inappropriate to call it a fiction. All in all, I strongly recommended Terovolas for all fans of the paranormal genre, regardless of whether they are admirers of Professor Van Helsing or not.
