Carlos lost his parents in Mexico at an early age and was transferred from one relative to another because no one would take him. After a very rough childhood, he was finally adopted by an American woman, Kathleen Connor. But in high school, in the hopes of fitting in with the crowd, he started dealing drugs ... until a murder might have implicated him because of a gun he lent to someone. He then flew back to Mexico and has been living there ever since. There, he fell in love with a Canadian older woman, Mia. When Mia went back to Canada, they still kept in touch, but also took other lovers when lonely. This is the love story of Carlos and Mia which, because of Carlos’ family history and drug trade, might not end well. Target In The Sun by Lynda Filler was told with the use of journals written by Carlos and Mia, sent to a Federal agent because of the contents.
A long distance relationship, illegal occupations, families who will not hesitate to kill their own kin to protect the business, these are just some of the problems Mia and Carlos had to face in their relationship. Add in what some people might think about their age gap and different races, their relationship shouldn’t have worked, but the couple didn’t let anything stop them and that showed in the love they had for each other. Their love story was extremely passionate, although the suspense part of the story was a little slow for me. Lucia, the FBI agent, was another great character of the story. She was funny and serious at the same time. Her protective streak towards Mia and Carlos made her a favorite. Target In The Sun is exciting and romantic.
