Tam Lin: A Modern, Queer Retelling by TJ Deschamps is the first book in A Modern, Queer Retelling (Faerie Tales). Tom Lane has made a major decision in his relationship with handsome athlete Ariel. He's proposed and is awaiting an answer. He doesn't get quite the answer he was looking for when Ariel gives him a ticket for a trip to Ireland where he can learn about his origins. The catch is, he'll be going alone but Tom doesn't stay disappointed long as he intends to have one last hooray before getting married. While he's away on vacation, he meets tour guides that take his breath away and their connection quickly turns into a romance that sweeps Tom into a whole other world. He soon learns the shocking truth about his own origins which are tied to a hero he thought was only real in stories. As if that wasn't startling enough, he soon finds himself face to face with the Wild Hunt.
The trip comes with several surprises that unlock magic beyond his dreams and while it throws him into a path of danger, the discovery of magic creates a new path for him. The dangerous other world brings Ireland to life through vivid details that weave a tale both beautiful and romantic. TJ Deschamps delivers a retelling of Tam Lin woven from the origins of Tom's family which ties him to the legendary hero. This is a fresh take on the story and those that love retellings will be immediately drawn to Tam Lin. The story is addictive from the first page and delivers a fast-paced tale with action, magic, and adventure. As the world comes to life before Tom's eyes, he finds himself in the path of the Wild Hunt. He has a romantic and impulsive soul but he is in need of some self-reflection to help him embark on the right direction for the next chapter of his life. The story is focused on Tom and his relationships with Ariel and then with Aoife and Fergus. The attractive tour guides sweep him away with their beauty, charm, and impulsiveness which put romance, seduction, and desire into his trip. In Tam Lin Deschamps creates a retelling that is unique, exciting, action-packed, and romantic, delivering a fast-paced whirlwind of magic, lore, and desire.
