Sunbaked (Pineapple Cay Stories Book 1) by Junie Coffey is a light reading mystery, blending strange characters and a Caribbean vacation into a fun story. When Nina finds out her husband has been cheating on her, she does the unthinkable and buys a house at 2:00 AM on the internet, on a far off island that she knows nothing about. Upon Nina’s arrival in Pineapple Cay, she finds she has bought a lovely little cottage that will need some tender loving care. Nina also finds that the people are very welcoming and soon becomes friends with Pansy and Danish, and her handsome next door neighbor Ted. The villain in the story is rich, obnoxious Barry and his wife Tiffany. Nina, Pansy and Danish soon find themselves playing amateur sleuths when Tiffany and her valuable necklace go missing. When the trio aren’t playing detective, they are having fun going to dinner parties, swimming, and going on scavenger hunts. Sunbaked details Nina’s first week on the island and it quickly becomes a place she happily calls home.
Junie Coffey has written a fun but realistic tale of life in the Caribbean where the sun always shines, but adding the excitement of Barry and Tiffany who see the chance to change all that. I enjoyed the lighthearted approach and wanted to be wetting my feet in the water while spending some time with Nina and her friends. Sunbaked is the perfect book to take on your vacation, get comfortable in your beach chair with, and enjoy a few hours of good reading. I look forward to the next installment of Sunbaked to see what my new friends are up to.
