Looking forward to a fun July Fourth weekend away from home, six West Florida university students rented a house in ritzy Palm Key Island. Nothing could prepare them for the horrors they would encounter through the night when they opened their doors to Ed Rawlins, a vicious serial killer wearing a yellow raincoat. But that was almost decades ago, and much has changed on the island. Or has it? This year, Riley March and her friends hope to party together one last time on the island before they leave for college. Their trip starts with luck as they find a summer rental directly by the beach. But just a few hours into their stay on the island, Riley repeatedly spots a human figure in a yellow hooded raincoat lurking in the shadows! Could it be serial killer Ed Rawlins? Will Riley and her friends make it out of the weekend alive? Read Rektok Ross's Summer Rental for more.
I couldn't resist this masterpiece! The plot was meaty, and I savored the enthralling story. Rektok Ross's skillfully constructed, vivid descriptions will seamlessly transport you to Palm Key Island when Hurricane Helena is approaching fast from the south. As the oncoming disaster causes massive power outages and darkness, and mistrust between closest friends skyrockets to an all-time high, you can almost hear the clock ticking as the impending carnage moves from lurking in the shadows and into the rental. I loved the suspense; readers will never guess the next thing to happen, and the roller coaster of events has a way of sucking one deep into the plot. Summer Rental goes deeper than just a chilling horror story that'll keep you up all night. It's an encouragement for us to be honest about ourselves to others. It's also a beautifully crafted work that expands on marginalization, vengeance, and bullying. Every conflict in the book is resolved satisfactorily, every essential loose end is neatly tied up, and everything draws to a worthwhile conclusion. Readers searching for a story with gripping action, horror, and adventure will best appreciate it.
