Author Biography

Hello, my name is Carmel Shami. I was born and raised in Israel. At age 20, I moved to the United States and pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University. Upon graduation, I had the privilege of working as a social worker with seniors and bereaved families for more than a decade.
In 2015, I combined my passion for helping people with my love for organizing, became a Professional Organizer and a Productivity consultant, and founded "The Organizing Whisperer." Through individual and group coaching, I help my clients organize their space and time to achieve clarity and flow in their daily lives.
I am a wife and a mother of 3 amazing kids. From an early age, I liked to write stories and poems, and I always dreamt of publishing one of my stories. Four years ago, my youngest boy, 8, was very anxious and had difficulty falling asleep. One night, I taught him to use my method of sorting and organizing, not in a physical space but with his thoughts. He loved the idea and started using it whenever he felt overwhelmed. We saw a significant change in his ability to fall asleep. He said, "I feel less fearful." I then decided to write his experience into a story that could help other kids that felt like him.

I look forward to helping you and your child organize your thoughts and achieve calmness and balance.
Enjoy the book, and let me know how you liked it!

Warmly,
Carmel

Stress kills! Too many parents fail to realize how stressful life has become for their children. There was a time when stress was foreign to children; now, stress is their chief problem. Carmel Shami realizes how much stress affects children and addresses this issue in her book, Stressy Jessy. This book teaches a fantastic coping skill to deal with stress, no matter your age. Stress starts to melt away when children learn to organize their lives and thought processes. Learning how to organize one’s brain and life is a skill that will serve your child well throughout their life. Messy thinking tends to lead to messy lives. Messy lives tend to increase one’s stress. Use this book to teach your child how to break the cycle of stress.

In Stressy Jessy, Carmel Shami shows she is an expert in teaching children how to handle stress. I really love the thought of just throwing some useless and harmful ideas away. We become overwhelmed when we try to hold onto too much negativity. Jessy realized he had a limited amount of space to deal with issues. Trying to stuff too much into their mind will cause people to become overstressed. Carmel has given parents a fantastic book to help their children cope with stress. The parents might even learn about how to handle their own stress. I was a counselor for 40 years and highly recommend this book for parents to share with their children. Rani Bar-Segev did an outstanding job illustrating this book. Her illustrations depicted the writing very well.

Stressy Jessy by Carmel Shami is a picture book for children about decluttering the mind, helping put all thoughts into the right brain compartments. The style of writing is warm and brings a calming sense of maternal energy to the reader, like a mother’s gentle and comforting embrace. The narrative really feels so plucked out of life, out of anyone’s potential life. Carmel Shami’s Stressy Jessy is a total game-changer for the parent of a child who is struggling with stresses and anxieties that the child may not even completely understand themselves. The emotive illustrations and honest, straightforward narration will easily charm and create a world of wonder for young and old alike. Stressy Jessy is a book not to be missed.

Carmel Shami’s Stressy Jessy instantly captured me. It made me wish I’d had this book when I was a kid. I tried to get out of going to school every morning that I woke up because I felt sick with what I didn’t know was anxiety and stress. The illustrations by artist Rani Bar-Segev did everything but sing and dance. They reminded me of Pixar quality scenes. You can see the emotion in the characters in a way that isn’t shown in other picture books and it elevates the book to perfectly match with the expert story-telling. Even though I’m not a kid anymore, I learned a lot from this book about managing fears and stresses and I know that this book will help whoever manages to get their hands and eyes on it.

Kids juggle many emotions on a day-to-day basis, and Jessy is a young student who struggles frequently with some of these emotions and the way his brain seems to always be running a hundred miles an hour. When he finds himself unable to fall asleep, his mom tries to help him organize his thoughts enough for his brain to calm down to sleep. From fearing his Spanish teacher to being in conflict with his friend, Jessy has a lot to sort through, but once he does, he feels relaxed once again. As Jessy gets used to organizing his thoughts, the stress that so often weighs him down goes away, and Jessy feels happier. Stressy Jessy by Carmel Shami is a sweet read with an insightful foundation.

I really enjoyed Stressy Jessy and thought that I could apply much of what Jessy learned to my own life. This book reaches children where they are at in life and shows how they can filter through the many emotions, thoughts, and feelings that so often can be overwhelming. Jessy was a relatable character who went through things that everyday kids go through, and the tips his mother shared on how to organize his brain were very educational. The illustrations were fun to look at, and I loved getting a look into Jessy’s brain before and after he organized everything going on there. I would recommend Stressy Jessy by Carmel Shami to all families; I think it could be very beneficial to young children who go through the same struggles as Jessy!
