Is it not rewarding and satisfying that all it takes to put a smile on someone's face is an act of kindness? Stitches for Kindness by Carisa Lovvorn is a children's book that will leave you humbled by the kindly actions of the Sharing Sisters. It is winter, and it appears to get colder each day. To make it worse, the dire effects of the COVID era have hit the poor hardest. This makes the Sharing Sisters sad. Remembering their mother's words that God hears their prayers and would provide them with a clear direction, the sisters set out to perform acts of generosity. On their way to town, they see a man standing by the edge of the road in tattered clothes with a heavy load. He held a cardboard sign that read: "Homeless. I need to be fed. Please help." In their capacity as children, how will they help the man?
What I loved most about Stitches for Kindness by Carissa Lovvorn was the inclusion of brightly colored pictures that covered entire pages. This not only makes the book attractive for kids but also enables them to break from the narration. The kids create mental images of the scenes depicted in the book and the characters described through the pictures. I noticed that the Sharing Sisters were always smiling while helping. This is an important aspect as kids learn to delight in acts of charity. I recommend this book to kids between the ages of 5-8. They will appreciate the virtues of love, kindness, and generosity that humans should have.
