Steve Tanner and the End of the World by Dr. A. is a children’s science fiction book about two young human boys, an earth-turned-ghost-planet, and a too-good-to-be-true alien paradise. When humans started their exodus from earth, Steve, the 13-year-old eponymous hero of this story and his best friend Jeff just wanted to have fun and enjoy the freedom of living in a ghost town in an equally ghost planet earth. But the time came for them to take their intergalactic shuttle flight and join their families in a luxurious paradise. Things went wrong and Steve and Jeff, together with a band of unlikely friends, uncovered a sinister plan that could spell the end of (at least!) two worlds.
Steve Tanner and the End of the World was a fun and easy read with likable characters and a delightful plot. I liked how Dr. A. wrote the story where each chapter was told from the point of view of a different character each time. It was like a montage of scenes from a movie in my mind’s eye. The best part of the book is the well-thought-out plot. As an avid reader, I had already been expecting a plot twist, but I certainly did not see that one coming. I had a speculation and it was wrong. That plot twist took me by surprise, and I was utterly delighted by it! I would recommend this book to children and adults alike. This is an entertaining story with a good plot twist and a satisfying ending.
