Staying Wet: A Southern Tale Told One Sip at a Time by Jacqueline Schnitzer was a really good story. Caddy, a southern belle, tells her life story to some unknown friend. Her life is filled with tragedy, alcohol and the longing to have something stable. I wanted to read this story just because the setting is in Alabama. I was thrilled that Schnitzer declared her team right away. Roll Tide Roll! Caddy was a lovable character who had her flaws. I could not help but get attached to her right off the bat. Her childhood tragedy definitely shaped her future. I loved her first husband, he was perfect. I figured out her second husband before her family knew. I knew her third husband was not love, but I understood why she married him.
I liked that Schnitzer told the story in pieces. She jumped back and forth between young Caddy and older Caddy. At first I thought that things were being left out of the story, but, reading on everything is explained. As for who Caddy is actually telling her life story to, that too is revealed. I was actually surprised by whom Caddy was talking to, but it all made sense in the end. The story is just not about Caddy, but also her family and friends. I disliked Teenie because she was so oblivious to what was going on with her children. Parker surprised me at the end. I was rooting for her the whole time. I love stories like this! I hope that Schnitzer continues to write more just like this.
