StarPassage by Clark Rich Burbidge is the first book in the young adult fantasy series, The Relic. This is a book and series that would appeal most to a mixed audience of teens and young adults who enjoy time travel adventure stories. Siblings Tim and Martie discover an ancient relic that can transport them through time and the discovery could not have come at a better time as their parents are suffering from PTSD and depression. The artifact might just be the answer to all of their family problems, but an evil group known as the Trackers also seeks the artifact for their own purposes. Will the artifact prove to be the solution to a family’s problems, or will it only serve to endanger them?
StarPassage by Clark Rich Burbidge has a visually appealing cover that served to provide a visual representation of two of the main characters; I really like the cover because it provided me with a clear picture of how the author created the characters. The story itself was entertaining with how it took place in different time periods and locations that were based on the relic. While the story itself was fictional, I felt that it also served as a message of hope for those who suffer from PTSD and/or depression; in addition, both conditions were accurately displayed in the characters. I found that after reading the book, I struggled to assign it to one genre, as it is a mix of historic fiction, faith, hope, and adventure. Overall, I was surprised by how much I came to enjoy Tim and Martie’s story and I would most certainly enjoy reading a sequel in the future!
