Stargazer: A Rock Satire II by Ricardo Jasso Moedano is a rollicking, satirical coming-of-age story that will grab music fans. Meet Adrian Flodden in his third term at K.F.D. University, poised to make an impression on the traditional party organized by the university to welcome new students. In an unusual fashion, he announces the arrival of his gang, The Hell Patrol, with the blaring sound of “Let the Thunder Roar” by Grim Reaper. With Crimson, Spade, and others of his gang, can he get noticed? Get ready for a musical adventure with memorable characters as they encounter mishaps, expose secrets, get into conflicts, and nurture big dreams. The story is filled with as much fun as the heart can take.
Ricardo Jasso Moedano has created a character in Adrian that music lovers will find irresistible. He can be boisterous and driven and fun to stick around with. The book looks at the essential elements that make a band stick together and explores the themes of friendship, entertainment, and music, all looked at through the prism of satire. The taciturn, humorous way in which the characters are described is arresting: “The susceptibility of certain people to sulkiness is inversely proportional to their capacity of amusement; that is, they grumble more often than they laugh.” This is the opening line of the story and it got me interested because it served as a warning that the writing would be peppered with insightful and intelligent passages, and I wasn’t wrong in making that judgment. Stargazer: A Rock Satire II is humorous, packed with masterfully crafted scenes, exciting characters, and lots of entertainment. I just couldn’t stop reading this excellent coming of age story filled with adventure.
