In Square-Eyed Raccoon: On a Mission! by Sylvia Melanson, Square-Eyed Raccoon was happy to be giving birth to little raccoons and finally becoming a mommy. She would teach her babies all the secret raccoon tricks but first, she had to return to the little white house attic. Square-Eyed Raccoon experienced many new adventures along the way. She met a skunk, a cat, and a lady that gave her food and took her for a ride into the forest where she released Square-Eyed Raccoon. Finally, Square-Eyed Raccoon knew it was time for her babies to arrive. She had to find a place where she could give birth and keep her babies safe, but would she find the attic?
Square-Eyed Raccoon: On a Mission! is a delightful tale. Author Sylvia Melanson has created an unusual adventure story for children. Little readers will learn that animals instinctively take care of their babies and will do whatever they must to protect and care for them. Learning survival tactics and tricks from parents are essential for young ones to stay alive. They also learn that there are many good and kind people in the world who are willing to humanely trap and release animals back into their natural habitat. The book is beautifully illustrated with plenty of pictures to keep children entertained. The raccoon having square eyes adds an interesting dynamic to the story and shows children that being different or unique simply makes life more interesting. All-round, a fantastic story, beautifully written and suitable for all children.
